Spring Walks & Forest Breathing: Explore Four Major Forest Recreation Areas to Welcome the Year of the Monkey

The Daxue Mountain, Baxian Mountain, Hehuan Mountain, and Wuling Forest Recreation Areas are popular spring walk destinations in central Taiwan. During the Lunar New Year holiday, besides shopping and visiting temples, they are perfect spots to enjoy forest bathing, immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, relax your body and mind, and recharge for the new year. To welcome the Lunar New Year holiday, the Daxue Mountain, Baxian Mountain, and Hehuan Mountain Forest Recreation Areas will be closed for maintenance on Lunar New Year’s Eve (February 7) and reopen as usual on the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 8). They are ideal for nature-loving visitors looking to go hiking.

● Daxue Mountain Forest Recreation Area
The early spring Daxue Mountain Forest Recreation Area is full of vitality. The scattered bright red cherry blossoms, light green tender leaves, and the crisp chirping of birds from time to time among the woods all herald the arrival of spring. In addition, it's currently the sea of clouds season at Daxue Mountain, where the sea of clouds and sunset glow are must-see sights. During the Lunar New Year period, the area enforces a visitor limit, with a maximum of 2,200 people allowed to enter per day.

● Baxian Mountain Forest Recreation Area
The Baxian Mountain Forest Recreation Area is in full bloom with spring, filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers. Along the Tianlai Trail, you can see the plumbeous water redstart hopping and swaying along with the sound of the stream, and in the dense bamboo forest trail, you can hear birds singing loudly. Come and experience a unique new forest adventure. Visitor limits are in place during the Lunar New Year, with a maximum of 1,500 people allowed to enter per day. From February 9–12 (the 2nd to 4th days of the Lunar New Year), free shuttle buses are available within the area, picking up visitors from the toll station parking lot and taking them to the visitor center. Visitors interested in going are encouraged to make use of this service.
