U.S. Topic: Stay Overnight in Van Gogh’s Room for Just $340

On the rental website Airbnb, you can always find interesting rooms—now you can even find Van Gogh’s room, and the price is surprisingly affordable at just NT$340 per night.

On the booking website Airbnb, anyone can rent out their unused space as a host to earn rental income. Compared to regular hotels, you can often discover surprisingly unique accommodations here. Recently, a room listed on Airbnb was described as being hosted by Van Gogh himself—and the listing claimed that this room allows guests to stay inside Van Gogh’s painting *The Bedroom in Arles*. With furniture and decor in Impressionist style, it promises an unexpectedly delightful stay. The cost for one night is also surprisingly low—at just ten U.S. dollars (about NT$340)—because the host (Van Gogh) can’t afford paint anymore. Additionally, guests will receive a ticket to the Van Gogh exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. It also reminds potential guests not to expect amenities like showers, TVs, or computers in the room, which is quite amusing.

Van Gogh’s *The Bedroom in Arles* is a work he completed in 1888–1889 while in Arles, Provence in southern France. The first version was damaged by flooding, so he later painted a second version with the same composition but slightly different colors as a gift for his mother and sister. Then came a third, smaller version. The three paintings are currently housed separately: one at the Van Gogh Museum in the Netherlands, one at the Musée d'Orsay in France, and another at the Art Institute of Chicago.
