When traveling in Korea, enjoying delicious Korean fried chicken with beer is one of the most satisfying food experiences. Now, McDonald’s seems to have caught on to the beer business opportunity by opening Asia’s first McDonald’s that sells beer in Seoul. Instead of offering cola, customers can pair their McDonald’s burgers and fries with beer, providing a unique dining option that has successfully generated buzz.

McDonald’s often tailors its menu offerings to local eating habits. In terms of alcoholic beverages, McDonald’s in Germany sells beer, and some locations in France even offer wine. The decision to open the first beer-selling branch in Asia in Korea is largely due to Korea being one of the highest alcohol-consuming countries in the region.

Asia’s first beer-selling McDonald’s is located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. Each burger entitles the customer to one beer. Additionally, as the legal drinking age in Korea is 19, customers may be asked to show identification when purchasing beer at McDonald’s. If the beer meal sets prove popular, McDonald’s Korea may consider opening similar outlets in areas such as Seoul’s Sinchon and Gangnam districts.
