The well-known Japanese tourist attraction “Tateyama Kurobe,” beloved by travelers to Japan, has announced that it will open this year on April 16th. The “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route,” which turns into a hot sightseeing destination every April, connects Toyama Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture in Japan, running through the heart of the Chubu-Sangaku National Park. Once snow clearing is completed, the route is declared “open” with full traffic access. The entire 37-kilometer stretch features snow walls up to 15 to 20 meters high, offering a breathtaking sight. The route is expected to remain open until June 22, 2016.

Known as the “Japanese Alps” or the “Roof of Japan,” the “Tateyama Kurobe” route is open to traffic from April to November each year. Within this route, at an altitude of 2,450 meters lies the Murodo Plateau, which boasts one of the world’s largest snow accumulations, with snow walls reaching up to 20 meters. After snow removal, there is a particularly spectacular 500-meter stretch known as the Snow Valley (also called the Great Snow Valley), where visitors can disembark and stroll to experience the feeling of being surrounded by towering snow walls. This year’s “Tateyama Snow Valley Stroll” event begins on April 16 and continues until June 22. Visitors can take a walk while admiring the white snow walls rising over 10 meters high on both sides, with the magnificent view also filled with a romantic atmosphere of a silver-white snowy world.
