Pink cherry blossom rain: Limited-time opening of Osaka Mint Bureau’s Cherry Blossom Avenue

As the annual cherry blossom season arrives, the Osaka Mint Bureau’s Cherry Blossom Pathway—renowned as one of the most beautiful cherry blossom spots in Kansai—has announced a limited seven-day opening from April 8 to 14. During this period, visitors will be able to walk through a tunnel woven by white and pink cherry blossoms.

The Mint Bureau’s Cherry Blossom Tunnel, located between the south and north gates near the Yodo River, stretches about 560 meters and features up to 133 varieties of unique cherry trees. These include the “Tulip” from Kyoto’s Chion-in Temple, the “Oshima Cherry” from Izu, the “Yang Guifei” from Nara, and the “Taihaku,” which had gone extinct in Japan but was successfully grafted and brought back from the UK. This year also sees the addition of a new variety, the “Rin-like.” When in full bloom, all 349 cherry trees will paint the entire blue sky in shades of white and pink. In addition, various colorful light-ups are scheduled after sunset, offering a different kind of romantic ambiance. It’s also worth noting that, in consideration of the quality of the cherry blossom viewing experience, the Mint Bureau prohibits the use of selfie sticks within the premises.
