The Guangfu area of Hualien isn’t just a secret spot for firefly watching. The “Seven-Colored Fishing Rod Bridge,” resembling a giant fishing rod, stands out with its bright colors and unique shape against the lush green mountains, making it a hidden local attraction.

The Seven-Colored Fishing Rod Bridge takes inspiration from the shooting-the-sun legend of the local Amis people. The rainbow fishing rod stands 18 meters tall, and its radial steel cables resemble fishing lines cast by an invisible hand—like someone fishing in the sky—appearing even more vibrant under the sunlight.

Aside from daytime sightseeing, the Danongdafu Plain Forest Park located here is also a local favorite for firefly viewing. From March to April each year, thousands of dreamy green lights can be seen dancing through the forest. This year, the Hualien Forest Management Office has launched a paid firefly-watching activity, with online registration and on-site payment, offering visitors fun activities all day long.
