How to Spend the Children’s Day Holiday: A Family-Friendly Tainan Itinerary Featuring Flowers and the Chimei Museum

With Children’s Day approaching, have you figured out how to spend this 4-day holiday? Tainan City is gearing up with exciting holiday activities that are perfect for a family day out. Enjoy the charm of floral feasts, appreciate cultural and creative art, or explore Tainan’s unique natural landscapes to create joyful memories together.

Flower lovers shouldn’t miss the popular kapok tree-lined road in Baihe’s Linchupi, ranked among the world’s 15 most beautiful flower streets by foreign media. Currently in full bloom, the stretch of kapok trees offers a spectacular view, and the surrounding rural scenery is equally charming. The Tourism Bureau has set up bike rental stations (Tourism T-Bikes) at Wushulin Leisure Area, Houpi Jingliao Rice-less Tourism Service Center, Putuo Temple in Xiaonanhai Scenic Area, and the Baihe 7-11 Xinlianxiang Branch, among others. These bikes are free to rent until April 5, 2016. Families are welcome to ride together through the rural areas of Baihe and Houpi, enjoying the natural countryside views.

In addition, Jiangjun District boasts the highest density and length of kapok tree-lined roads in the city, earning it the title “Hometown of Kapok.” These trees are mainly found near Lingziliao (Southern Route 22), Jiachang Li (Southern Route 21), near Jiangjun Junior High School, and along adjacent streets (Southern Routes 20 and 24), turning the once-simple country roads into a sea of vibrant red. Nearby, the vibrant hollyhocks in Xuejia are also in full bloom, displaying a riot of colors including red, purple, white, and yellow. The flower fields feature pathways that allow visitors to stroll among the blooms, creating a dazzling maze-like experience. This scenic display is further complemented by golden rapeseed fields, sunflowers, and cosmos flowers, making for an absolutely breathtaking sight.

For those who enjoy an artsy and intellectual trip, the Chimei Museum—one of Taiwan’s most popular check-in spots—is a great choice. The museum is currently offering the “Tainan Locals Lead the Way: Friends Enter Free” program. From March 23 to June 30, Tainan residents or students studying in Tainan can enjoy free entry upon presenting valid ID, and can also bring friends from outside Tainan to enter without a reservation by purchasing tickets directly. The nearby Shihgu Cultural and Creative Park not only features performances by the renowned Shi Gu Percussion Orchestra but also offers free Children’s Day workshops. Children under 12 can participate for free in a DIY blessing drum ornament activity.
