The Pingtung Colorful Rice Festival Debuts with a 3D Airplane-Themed Paddy Field

Following the huge success of the 2015 LINE-themed Colorful Rice Art Festival, the 2016 Pingtung Colorful Rice Festival moved to Longshui Village in Hengchun Township and kicked off again on April 1st this year. This year’s colorful rice fields were created through a collaboration between the Pingtung County Government and the EVA Airways Group, featuring a cute 3D rice art motif of an airplane and Hengchun’s city gate made from five-color rice, which is both adorable and eye-catching.

The “2016 Pingtung Colorful Rice Life Festival” runs for 38 days from April 1 to May 8, showcasing one hectare of painted rice paddies in Longshui Village, Hengchun Township. In partnership with EVA Airways, the event includes not only free licensing of the EVA logo and the design of the rice patterns, but also container-based installation art viewing platforms and free round-trip plane tickets. Just visit the festival during its run and share photos on social media to be entered in a draw to win free EVA round-trip airfare.

In addition to the painted rice paddies, the Colorful Rice Life Festival has planned a variety of themed activities, including“Rice Wave Starry Sky Camping,”inviting everyone to experience a night’s rustic stay in the paddies;“Southern Cross Stargazing,”since Hengchun is the only place in Taiwan where you can see the Southern Cross—come and experience it under spring night skies; the artistically curated“Rice Meadow Scenic Area,”offering photo-perfect views of the countryside at any time; the custom-made“Bamboo Frame Rice Paddy Tea House,”where you can sit among the rice and taste Hengchun’s uniquely bitter yet sweet Gangkou tea; plus, because the local belief center Baoling Temple in Longshui is dedicated to the Kitchen God, giving Longshui the reputation as the hometown of chefs, the highlight of this year’s Colorful Rice Life Festival is the“Rice Paddy Dining Table”-“Chef’s Special Menu” event.Other enriching activities include“One-Day Farmer Rice Planting,” “Red Turtle|Experience,”DIY“Pingtung Century-Old Specialty Market,” “Colorful Rice Post Office,” and “Peninsula Eco-Tourism.”And more.
