The foreign-language film that won three special awards at the Venice Film Festival—[Sicily’s Long Wait] is set to be released in Taiwan. Produced by renowned Italian producer Nicola Giuliano, the 50-year-old Nicola is currently one of the key figures behind many important films in Italy. His producing credits include [The Great Beauty], which won Best Foreign Language Film at both the Oscars and Golden Globes. This marks his debut as a feature film director, and he has already taken home three special awards.

The film tells the story of Anna, a woman who moves from France to Italy after marrying, and after divorcing her husband, she lives alone in the picturesque Sicilian countryside. Her large mansion is accompanied only by solitude. One day, Jen, the girlfriend of her son Giseppe, suddenly pays a visit. Jen claims she was invited by Giseppe to come to Sicily to meet him and spend the Easter holiday together.

Anna enjoys cooking for her guest and taking her to hidden spots around Sicily. The once-empty mansion seems to regain its vitality... As Easter approaches, the entire island of Sicily is immersed in the festive atmosphere of traditional Easter celebrations. The two women wait patiently in Sicily, awaiting Giseppe’s promised return.

Juliette Binoche, an Oscar, Berlin, and Venice Film Festival-winning actress, agreed to star in the film after reading the script during the early stages of production. She even boldly told the director, “I don’t need to ‘act’—I am the character.” During filming, she delivered a performance even more powerful than before, shifting from initial restraint and coldness to deep emotional expression by the end. Her ability to master her emotions not only impressed all the crew on set but also earned high praise from international media.
