520 State Banquet Dishes Revealed Ahead of Time: President Tsai Personally Feeds “Happy Pigs” That End Up on the Table

The 520 presidential inauguration ceremony is just around the corner, and the state banquet menu for the day has always been a major focus. This time, Taipei Marriott Hotel has been selected for the first time as the venue for the state banquet. A team of four head chefs and over 120 chefs created eight dishes rich in Taiwanese flavor, with “local” and “in-season” as their two key concepts, using the best seasonal local ingredients to win over the palates of domestic and international guests.

The most popular dish is this “Grilled Happy Pig.” The pork used comes from the Yunlin Happy Pigs that the newly inaugurated President Tsai Ing-wen once personally fed. Though it looks like a Western-style dish, the inspiration comes from Taiwan’s iconic snack, “Lu Rou Fan” (braised pork rice). With intricate cooking procedures and a creative blend of Eastern and Western techniques, it offers a unique taste of Taiwan.
