The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the deceased in the fatal traffic accident in Japan was a Taiwan-born Japanese national.

Heavy snowfall in Tokyo, Japan on the 22nd led to frequent traffic accidents, with reports that a Taiwan-born Japanese woman died in a traffic incident. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lee Hsien-chang confirmed that the woman who died in the car accident was a Taiwan national who had acquired Japanese citizenship.

According to Japanese media reports, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department stated that from 4:30 PM on the 22nd, a total of 806 traffic accidents occurred in Tokyo, resulting in 47 injuries or deaths. Among them, a Taiwanese expatriate surnamed Gao died after colliding with a truck. The woman was driving in the evening of the 22nd when her tires skidded due to heavy snow, causing a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, which tragically resulted in her death.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the local police in Namegata City, Ibaraki Prefecture verified that the deceased Taiwanese expatriate was a Taiwan national who had acquired Japanese citizenship. The representative office has informed the family through the police, and will provide full assistance including document verification if needed.
