However, most people have little experience driving in snowy conditions, and even a small mistake can lead to an accident. To ensure a pleasant trip, be sure to keep the following principles in mind.
1. When renting a car, make sure it is equipped with snow tires.
2. Try not to brake suddenly, and always maintain a safe following distance.
3. Reduce your speed when taking turns; it’s safest to turn at speeds below 30 km/h.
4. Avoid the risk of driving through areas with excessively deep snow, as this may cause your axles to get stuck and leave you stranded.
5. Before driving, not only should you clear the snow from the roof of the car to prevent it from falling onto the windshield and obstructing your view, but you should also remove any snow or ice from inside the wheel rims. Otherwise, it may fall off at high speeds and increase the risk of skidding.
6. Ironically, the most dangerous time is often when the snow is melting. As the snow turns to water and then refreezes, it becomes easier for your car to slip. Drive slowly and cautiously to stay safe.
7. After parking, always pull up the windshield wipers to prevent them from sticking to the glass.
