The Lina ferry will launch in July, taking you directly to Japan in just 3.5 hours

Travelers to Japan now have a new option — Taiwan’s ferry operator “Lina” is set to launch a regular route between Su’ao and Ishigaki Island on July 4. The two destinations are only 250 kilometers apart, even closer than the distance from Taipei to Kaohsiung, allowing you to reach Ishigaki Port in Japan from Su’ao Port in just three and a half hours. Once the regular route is established, it will benefit tourism development and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Japan.

On May 14, the Lina ferry conducted a trial voyage from Hualien to Ishigaki Island. A delegation led by Legislator Hsiao Bi-khim and local officials from Ishigaki Island engaged in exchanges as part of testing the waters for a regular service, aiming to boost tourism in eastern Taiwan. Starting July 4, the Su’ao-Ishigaki route will operate one round-trip per week every Monday, initially running as a chartered service. The outbound trip departs at 7:30 AM from Taiwan (local time) and arrives in Ishigaki at 12:00 PM (Japan time), while the return trip leaves Ishigaki at 7:30 PM (Japan time) and arrives back in Su’ao Port at 10:00 PM (Taiwan time)..

With the new Su’ao–Ishigaki route, Taiwanese travelers now have an additional way to visit Japan. The ferry also allows unlimited luggage weight, making it ideal for shopping trips. Travelers can even bring their bicycles onboard for a cycling adventure around Ishigaki Island, offering more diverse travel options and helping to promote tourism between both regions.
