When traveling, accommodation is a very important consideration. Choosing a good place to stay not only provides a comfortable resting environment, but safety is also one of the essential factors to consider. How can you stay in a safe accommodation? Rob Walker, a travel safety expert from the international SOS organization, shares his insights and teaches the public what reference indicators to consider when choosing accommodation to enhance their own safety.
1. Room Location
Experts recommend that the room should be located away from public areas such as the lobby, restaurant, and bar, but close to emergency exits, as these public areas are often more vulnerable to intrusion or may become targets of attack.

2. Floor Selection
When choosing the floor for your accommodation, many people prefer higher floors to enjoy the view, but experts suggest choosing between the 2nd and 5th floors. This helps prevent burglaries and, in case of emergencies, ensures the room is within the reach of a fire truck’s ladder and increases survival chances if an escape through the window is necessary.
3. Avoid Connecting Doors
Some hotel rooms have connecting doors to another room. When choosing accommodation, try to avoid this type of room. If unavoidable, make sure the connecting door is locked and use additional protective measures such as door stoppers.

4. Suite Bathroom

5. Use Local Telecom Operators
In critical moments, it is best to use communication services provided by local telecom operators, with personal information registered. This will effectively help you quickly call for help in case of an emergency.
6. Avoid Dining Out
If you arrive in a country under a travel alert, experts suggest it’s best to eat inside your room and avoid going to restaurants outside as much as possible.

Of course, the most important thing is to avoid traveling to countries where the travel alert level has risen. But if you must go, confirm in advance the locations and times of major events or planned protests, and prepare thoroughly before your trip to ensure your safety throughout your journey.
