The Hawaiian lantern festival was first initiated in 1999 by a Buddhist group as an activity to send heartfelt blessings to those who have passed away by releasing lanterns onto the sea. Today, it has become a major annual event in Hawaii, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the world.

Organizers provide free lanterns to participants every year, where people can write down their wishes and hopes, then release the lanterns onto the sea. Slowly drifting out to the ocean, they shine like countless stars in the night sky, carrying everyone’s beautiful blessings.
