The hidden gem of Yuhsiu Art Museum is so worth the mountainous journey.

Newly opened and completed earlier this year, Yuhsiu Art Museum is currently the world’s first private art museum dedicated to “contemporary realism art.” It was funded and built by entrepreneur Mr. Hou Ying? and Ms. Ye Yuhsiu. The entire museum building is primarily constructed with exposed concrete, paired with an Oriental garden concept, presenting a low-key yet elegant beauty. Additionally, there is a cultural and creative shop, Si Space, VIP accommodation space, and more. The museum is committed to forming a small-scale, low-key, refined, diverse, and flexibly operated art space.

Since 2007, entrepreneurs Mr. Hou Ying? and Ms. Ye Yuhsiu have been investing in the support and cultivation of young artists through various sponsorship channels on their own initiative. They hope to enhance the level of artistic creation and aesthetic education in Taiwan through exhibitions, collections, research, teaching, and artist residencies. They also aim to promote young Taiwanese artists internationally.

The architecture of the art museum was designed by Taiwanese architect Liao Weili. The three buildings within the park are arranged in a random yet well-balanced layout, reflecting the clustered context of the villages. The design aims to integrate architectural space, materials, structure, and construction. The design concept follows the museum’s proposed principles of “low-key,” “refined,” and “streamlined.” The building utilizes exposed concrete, wood, and glass curtain walls as materials, striving to embody “a strategy of retreat, responding to nature in a low-key manner; a principle of concealment, refining exquisite quality; and a method of simplicity, showcasing elegant streamlining.”

Founder Ms. Ye Yuhsiu also mentioned: Choosing the location at the foot of Jiujou Peak is simply to add a faint stroke of color on the canvas of blue sky, white clouds, and lush green earth. It may not be stunning, but we hope it can move you. Especially during or after the rain, Jiujou Peak is as pristine as a paradise on earth, where heaven, earth, and humanity seem to merge seamlessly.

In addition, all cultural and creative goods in the museum’s gift shop are independently developed, including exhibition publications, art books, artist-created merchandise, imported brand creative items, and more. There is also a dedicated exhibition and sales area for young artists, offering creatively artistic and design-oriented items.
