Flight attendants' overwork issue — Evergreen Marine continues sit-in protest

The Taoyuan Flight Attendants’ Labor Union’s Evergreen branch launched a protest on January 21, staging a sit-in in front of the Evergreen Marine Building to highlight flight attendants' overwork issues. A press conference was held at 10 a.m. on January 22 to call on more flight attendants to join the movement.

Since the protest site is a pickup and drop-off point for Evergreen Airline shuttle buses, the bus stops have been relocated to avoid disrupting traffic. Flight attendants continue to protest against overworked flights, especially the six major overwork routes, which have led to issues such as excessive working hours and insufficient rest periods while stationed abroad. The six affected routes include Taipei–San Francisco, Taipei–Lisbon, Taipei–Tokyo, Taipei–Beijing, and Kaohsiung–Tokyo.

For example, on the Taipei–San Francisco route, flight attendants get one day off before departure and three days off after returning to Taiwan. However, frequent intense work followed by brief rest often leads to weakened immunity, hormonal imbalances, and other health problems, significantly impacting the physical well-being of flight attendants. In response to these concerns, EVA Air has expressed willingness to negotiate, but has not yet reached further communication or consensus with the protesting representatives. The sit-in action is still ongoing.
