The "Hans Christian Andersen Illustration Award" was created by UNESCO's IBBY in 1966. Every two years, member countries worldwide nominate outstanding illustrators, and after a rigorous selection process, the award is given to illustrators who have made significant and unique contributions to children's picture book education, recognizing their lifelong achievements. The year 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the award being presented independently, and Taiwan is hosting its global premiere—making this event of great commemorative significance. We invite everyone to share in the joy and glory.

Currently, the Hans Christian Award exhibitions are typically presented as solo shows of the laureates. Most of these illustrators have never had exhibitions before. This 【Highest Honor, Little Nobel Prize—50th Anniversary Exhibition of the International Hans Christian Andersen Illustration Award】 will be the first large-scale illustration exhibition to gather all past international Hans Christian Andersen Award winners. It is expected to showcase approximately 300 illustration works by 25 laureates from 1966 to 2015, including classic pieces by renowned artists such as Lisbeth Zwerger, Květa Pacovská, and Anthony Browne. The collection also features masterpieces by masters like Mitsumasa Anno, known as the "Escher of Japan," Maurice Sendak, hailed as the "Picasso of children's books," and Tomi Ungerer, a giant in the world of children's picture book creation. It offers a complete presentation for both adults and children in Taiwan who love illustrations.
