Located in Caotun, Nantou, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute has, in recent years, aimed to promote the modernization and creative development of Taiwan’s crafts industry as well as the dissemination of craft culture and aesthetics. It hosts various exhibitions and competitions, organized respectively by the Craft Culture Hall, Craft Design Hall, Life Craft Hall, and Local Craft Hall. The complex also includes eight craft workshops where those who love handicrafts can engage and interact—such as the Metalworking Workshop, Dyeing and Weaving Workshop, Pottery Workshop, and more. Consider setting aside some time for a visit and try your hand at creating your own craftwork.

The Craft Culture Hall, designed by renowned artist Yang Ying-feng, opened in 1977 (the 66th year of the Republic of China) and is the most iconic building in the Taiwan Craft Culture Park. It regularly curates special exhibitions on contemporary craft art and culture, with themes including Taiwan’s diverse craft traditions, contemporary craft innovation, and the development of the crafts industry, offering the public opportunities to learn about, appreciate, and experience craft culture.

The Craft Information Hall features areas such as a craft product exhibition and sales zone, a craft book reading area, an international conference hall, and a 3D cinema. By integrating local crafts and cultural characteristics and utilizing digital equipment and media platforms, it conveys the unique charm and style of Taiwan’s crafts without limitations. Additionally, the Life Craft Hall includes the Yihé Private Dining Restaurant, a craft creation experience workshop, a toys workshop, and a Happy Forest children’s craft experience area.

The “Local Craft” Hall is designed as a venue for promoting Taiwan’s indigenous local crafts. The hall offers diverse service areas, including spaces for craft groups to participate in learning and operations, craft experience and learning programs, promotion of local innovative crafts, and international exchange exhibitions and performances.
