The Swing Jazz Festival on the Grassland Makes a Grand Debut

The Taichung Jazz Festival enters its 14th year, kicking off in a grand way on September 30. The 2016 Taichung Jazz Festival will last for 10 days, featuring jazz musicians from 13 countries across four continents—Europe, America, Asia, and Africa—taking turns to perform. To coincide with the 100th anniversary of the release of the world’s first jazz record, the festival will center around the theme “A Century of Jazz Awakens,” showcasing the diverse development of jazz styles.

During the 10-day main performance program, in addition to the main stage shows featuring top domestic and international jazz ensembles performing cross-border collaborations, and the small stage events that bring together emerging and seasoned performers closer to the public, the festival has also expanded its scope. Renowned teams will be invited to a series of stages across the Mountain, Sea, and Tuntian districts to spread the charm of jazz.

Additionally, Grammy Award winner Aaron Lington from the U.S. has been invited to create the event’s theme song, fully presenting the century-long splendor of jazz. Unlike previous years, this edition of the festival aims to awaken Taichung’s jazz DNA and enhance the city’s living atmosphere. A series of “Jazz Awakening City” activities have been specially planned—from street traffic lights and trains to neighborhood cafes—extending jazz’s reach to every corner. This awakens the city’s jazz spirit, transforming jazz from being confined to the Civic Square in October to becoming a lifestyle across the entire city of Taichung.
