On the first weekend night of October, Taipei will gather designers and artists to curate an exhibition for the city, joining the world-renowned global Nuit Blanche network. Nuit Blanche (White Night) was initiated by the Paris municipal government in 2002 and has since been adopted by over 120 capital and major cities across Europe and the Americas. This year, Taipei—recognized as a World Design Capital—takes the spotlight as the first capital city in Asia to host Nuit Blanche.

The Nuit Blanche event originated from the Paris municipal government’s vision to bring contemporary art closer to citizens, allowing them to gain a renewed and profound understanding of their city through shared celebration. Centered around contemporary art performances, the event invites artists worldwide to design and transform Paris into a grand stage of cutting-edge contemporary art.

The curatorial setting of Taipei’s Nuit Blanche centers on the old city center, primarily around the area near Beimen, extending along the historic Dihua Street and strolling into the character-rich Chongqing South Road—Taipei’s Book Street—pausing at the 228 Peace Park and the National Taiwan Museum.

Through Nuit Blanche, landscapes of the past transcend time and space, refining historical meaning and showcasing a traditional urban atmosphere. The public can journey through Taipei’s political, cultural, historical, and industrial heritage, rediscovering the shared memories of old Taipei. Art brings to life the city’s blend of tradition and modern urban charm.
