2016 Taichung Old Town Life Festival: A Must-Visit Alleyway Micro-Trip for Culture Lovers

The 2015 “Nice to Meet You, Taichung” Old Town Life Festival stirred conversations around the regeneration of the old town, neighborhood creativity, and civic engagement. Through its activity design and guided tours, it met the needs of a variety of participants and provided multiple ways to discover the old town of Taichung. The 2016 edition of the festival, themed “Countdown to a New Day,” continues to draw more attention, uncover hidden gems, and spark further dialogue—transforming the old town from being seen to being truly experienced, and bringing the concept of a “creative city, life capital” to life in the historic district.

The old town, the birthplace of Taichung’s development, has a rich cultural heritage filled with endless stories thanks to the establishment of Taichung Railway Station. The 2015 Old Town Life Festival opened the curtain for the old town to tell its stories. These stories stirred the alleys, artisans, industries, arts, and daily life of the old town, where old assets and new creativity had already quietly converged.
