The mountain slopes, rendered in fiery orange-red hues, present a jagged, undulating profile that rises abruptly from the base. Located on the northern side of the Da’an River, Flame Mountain’s distinctive shape is the result of intense tectonic activity. Its main layer, composed of thick gravel interwoven with thin sandstone, has relatively weak cohesion. Over the years, exposure to wind and rain has caused severe erosion, fragmenting the terrain and creating the dramatic scene of jagged peaks and scattered rubble.

Adventurers attempting Flame Mountain should take extra precautions, as the mountain lacks specially constructed trails. The rugged, natural terrain can lead to slips or obstacles from scattered rocks, making it unsuitable for very young children. As you ascend along the ridgeline, you’ll also need to navigate steep, high-gradient slopes. To prevent hikers from getting lost, the Forestry Bureau has placed milestones every 500 meters to guide direction.
