New Highlights as Taichung Railway Station’s Elevated High-Speed Rail Section Opens

The first phase of the Taichung Railway Elevated Project commenced operations on October 16. Since the new station opened, many passengers have been busy capturing the appearance of the new Taichung Railway Station with their cameras and smartphones. Many also feel that the elevated railway gives off a high-speed rail vibe, making travel seem faster. The old Taichung Railway Station departed its final northbound Tze-Chiang Limited Express train at 8:55 p.m. on October 15. In the early hours of the following day, the elevated railway switch was completed, and the new elevated station officially opened for service on the morning of October 16.

With the opening of the new station, the facilities of the old ground-level station will also be preserved and repurposed into a railway exhibition hall, reflecting Taichung’s urban philosophy of “preserving the old while establishing the new.” In addition to the old station, the city government will also retain a 1.6-kilometer-long retaining wall to form a Green Rail Corridor, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to travel smoothly and connecting modern shopping centers, the new Guo-Guo Market, the Central District Commercial Area, the Green River, and the Taichung Cultural and Creative Park — all key leisure, tourism, commercial, and cultural destinations.

Following the elevation of the railway, it is scheduled to align with the relocation completion of Kuo-Kuang Bus. Starting October 29, stops for 68 bus routes will be adjusted accordingly. Passengers are reminded to pay attention to these changes.

Additionally, the second phase of the project is set to begin. The Taichung City Government’s Department of Transportation has already adjusted the traffic flow planning around various stations and inspected both the Taichung Railway Station in Fengyuan and the Taiyuan Station to assess surrounding traffic conditions, and has formulated more comprehensive transportation support measures.
