When memories are peeked at, everyone has hidden "secrets"

The movie *Secret*, adapted from the bestselling manga *Kokuhaku* (*Confessions*), hits theaters on 11/4. Director Toshiaki Toyoda spent five years preparing to bring what were deemed "unfilmable" scenes from the original—such as visualized brain memories and MRI scans—onto the big screen, and has finally succeeded in creating a world-first, mind-blowing visual experience that surpasses sensory expectations. As a result, *Secret* has been compared to the Hollywood classic *The Cell*.

The story follows "Section 9," a special investigative unit that visualizes the memories of deceased individuals by scanning their brains to solve cold cases. Section Chief Shin (played by Toma Ikuta), who is remarkably handsome, and rookie investigator Aoki (Masaki Okada) are tasked with accessing the brain of death row inmate Tsukiguchi (Kippei Shiina) to locate the whereabouts of his missing eldest daughter, Kinuko (Risa Yoshida). However, the memory images displayed on screen leave the investigators deeply shaken...

In the visuals, Kinuko is seen wielding a knife. Although "Section 9" and detective Manabe (played by Nanako Matsushima) later find Kinuko, the trauma of witnessing her father’s crimes causes her to suffer from amnesia. Meanwhile, Manabe tracks down a man connected to Kinuko, who then commits suicide in front of him. It is later discovered that nine people across Japan took their own lives simultaneously. In search of the reason behind these simultaneous suicides, the "secret" is about to be revealed...
