While scrolling through IG this day, I came across a check-in post for this place called “Uncle Fire Plate Korean BBQ.” The reviews were really good. I checked out the comments on their official page too, and almost everyone said it serves the most authentic Korean food. Plus, there weren’t any negative reviews at all!I immediately jotted it down and added it to my must-visit list...

The owner of “Uncle Fire Plate Korean BBQ” is actually Korean! It turns out they’ve been open for over half a year already, and I’m only just finding out about it now!(A bit behind the times... so embarrassing ==")

“Uncle Fire Plate Korean BBQ” is located on Wuchang Street in the North District, near the China Medical University shopping area. Next door was a previously beloved all-you-can-eat spicy hotpot place of mine, but the quality declined later on, they changed the name, and I haven’t gone back since...

“Uncle Fire Plate Korean BBQ” has two seating areas — the front section has regular tables and chairs, while the back section features Japanese-style seating. If you want more comfort, the front seats might be better, but if you’re aiming for that authentic Korean dining vibe, I’d recommend the back area!

Drinks are self-serve from the fridge. I really wanted some yuzu soju! But I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive, but I have to drive...

● ETtoday News Cloud reminds you: Don't drink and drive. Don't drive after drinking.

As for boiled water... the owner’s wife will pour it for you!(Such great service!)

The menu is two pages long — you can order à la carte or go for double or quad set meals. We went straight for the double set and added a few extra items we wanted to try.

The grill plate... it’s not even round! And it’s irregularly shaped — pretty unique, right?

There are four types of side dishes, all refillable. My favorite was kimchi — it had a rich flavor but wasn’t overly sour. The owner also taught us that you can wrap the grilled meat with pickled radish, which gives a different taste!

Lettuce salad – with Korean sweet-spicy sauce. I personally didn’t like it much, so I skipped it.

Sticky rice peppers and garlic slices... I’m not a big fan of these bold-flavored spices, so I passed.

Apparently, you can sometimes get sesame leaves, too. The owners are really attentive!(Hearts in my eyes)

Pork belly – the double set comes with two types of meat: you can choose between pork belly and pork collar. We got one of each.

For the main part, you can choose either cheese or purple rice. We got one of each, too. The cheese goes straight on the grill, and once the pork belly is grilled, you can dip it in the melted cheese.

This combo is pretty indulgent, but honestly, it’s super delicious~The meaty flavor mixed with creamy cheese is incredibly rich. Totally worth the calories!

The pork collar also comes with greens that you can lay beside the grill to cook along with the meat!

Pork collar is more tender, but it’s also a bit leaner in fat. I wrapped it in lettuce and kimchi.

Eating carbs at dinner feels a bit heavy, but I just got the purple rice and cheese for the photos!Tried a couple of bites just for show XD

Soup – you can choose between doenjang stew or kimchi jjigae (kimchi = Korean fermented vegetables). The doenjang stew tastes lighter, with zucchini, radish, clams, tofu, and enoki mushrooms inside.

That’s the full content of the double combo meal. Two people’s worth for just $699 TWD — isn’t the price super affordable!?

Fried rice cakes – $65 TWDThis dish is pretty special. The rice cakes are pre-fried, then topped with Korean sweet-spicy sauce. The exterior is crispy, the inside soft and chewy — the texture really surprised me. It’s completely different from other Korean rice cakes I’ve had before!

Korean steamed egg – $80 TWDI had the exact same steamed egg at another Korean restaurant earlier that day, but that one cost $200 TWD. Here it’s only $80 TWD — what a huge difference! The steamed egg is very soft and tender, but it’s best eaten hot because it changes texture when it cools!

Pan-fried dish – $120 TWDThere are three types: leek pancakes, kimchi pancakes, and zucchini pancakes... The selection depends on the ingredients available that day. On the day we visited, we had the zucchini pancakes, which had a slightly moister texture and weren't as crispy on the outside, but they were still delicious.

Drinks – watermelon soda and Asian pear juice. I often drink Asian pear juice, but it was my first time trying watermelon soda. I thought it tasted very much like watermelon, and I quite liked it.

While writing this, I checked the shop’s fan page, and wow... out of over 70 reviews, every single one was five stars. Most people praised the affordable, tasty, and authentic food. One even called it the best Korean BBQ in Taichung, no contest.
