200,000 Collection Items Revealed to the Public: Paris’s Palais Galliera Transforms into a Fashion Museum

Visiting museums in Paris is definitely an essential part of any trip, and now there's a new must-see destination. The Fashion Museum is set to open in 2019, and travelers who love Parisian fashion trends simply can’t miss it.

According to Vogue.com, the Palais Galliera in Paris has long been a venue for major international fashion exhibitions. Although it has always enjoyed a prestigious reputation in the fashion world, due to only hosting temporary exhibitions, its visibility has lagged behind that of major museums like the Louvre. With a €5.7 million (approximately NT$190 million) funding injection from Chanel and the City of Paris, the Palais Galliera has now become a dedicated Fashion Museum.The Palais Galliera in Paris has long been a venue for major international fashion exhibitions. This museum will feature a basement exhibition area spanning 7,300 square feet (approximately 660 square meters), which will remain open year-round. Visitors can explore the history of fashion from the 18th century to the present day — including iconic garments from major houses such as those worn by Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVII, as well as designs from Balenciaga, Pierre Balmain, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, and Elsa Schiaparelli. Additionally, there will be displays of Audrey Hepburn’s classic outfits from the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The museum is expected to open in 2019, allowing visitors to enjoy 200,000 historical pieces in the capital of fashion.
