Cherry Blossom Enthusiasts' Must-Photograph 'King Cherry' Dies, Dimming the Beauty of Tamsui Tienyuan Temple's Blossoms

Tamsui Tienyuan Temple is a highly popular cherry blossom viewing spot in northern Taiwan. Especially when its five to six hundred Yoshino cherry trees are in full bloom, the crowds of visitors highlight its immense popularity. Among them, the "King Cherry" near the temple’s altar is a must-see attraction and a favorite subject for photographers, but sadly, news broke before next spring that the King Cherry has died, disappointing many cherry blossom enthusiasts.

The King Cherry fell ill around August or September, its leaves turned yellow and fell off. With its roots confirmed to be rotten and beyond saving, it had to be uprooted. The temple plans to begin replanting in December. If the new tree grows successfully, it is estimated to take three to five years to restore the former beauty of the King Cherry.
