The historic building's exterior painted in Watsons blue sparks controversy

After receiving complaints, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan and the Cultural Affairs Bureau took an interest in the issue and conducted an on-site inspection. They decided to preserve the cultural character of the district and, after discussions with Watsons, assisted in restoring Yuanfang Hospital’s original exterior color. Additionally, they are considering whether to designate the buildings in this area as historic structures, pending evaluation by members of the “Taoyuan City Cultural Heritage Review Committee.” This incident involving the color change of a historic building’s facade has come to a temporary resolution and highlights the growing awareness and appreciation for preserving heritage sites and architecture among both the government and the public.
