6 Additional High-Speed Rail Trains Added for 2017 New Year’s Holiday Travel Rush Ticket Booking

During the New Year’s travel rush on Taiwan High-Speed Rail, passenger ticket pre-sales have been strong. To enhance service for travelers heading home or going on trips, the high-speed rail company will operate 6 additional train services during the travel rush period (December 30 to January 3) — 4 southbound and 2 northbound — and provide 3 to 4 cars with non-reserved seating to alleviate peak-hour crowds. Ticket sales will start at midnight on Wednesday, December 21.

With large crowds expected during the New Year’s travel rush, the high-speed rail company advises passengers to reserve seats in advance and pick up tickets early so they can go straight to the platform and board upon arrival. It also recommends that passengers from areas such as Neihu, Nangang, Songshan, Xinyi, Xizhi, Keelung, and Yilan make use of the nearby Nangang Station — which offers integrated MRT, TRA, and THSR services and serves as the starting point for southbound trains — to save valuable time.

 

During the New Year’s high-speed rail travel rush, a total of 116 additional train services will be added over 5 days (50 southbound and 66 northbound), providing a total of 801 train services (397 southbound and 404 northbound). In addition, to help passengers who haven’t yet booked plan their trips, the high-speed rail company will publish daily on its official website and at all stations the hot-selling information for reserved seats on each train service during the New Year’s travel rush. Passengers can check online which services still have available reserved seats.
 
 
 
Additionally, all train services during the New Year’s travel rush will maintain 3 to 5 cars with non-reserved seating. Passengers holding periodical tickets, round-trip tickets, or Easycard co-branded cards (with auto-load enabled) can directly tap in and ride the non-reserved cars.
