[Manchester by the Sea] is produced by Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon, and the director enlisted Kenneth Lonergan, who was nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globes and for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. [Manchester by the Sea] is set in a small town in Massachusetts, USA, called “Manchester by the Sea.” The story is based on an idea from Matt Damon, who originally wanted to direct the film and invited Kenneth to write the screenplay. Later, due to scheduling conflicts, he couldn’t direct it himself, so he asked Casey Affleck — the actor he believed could best embody the role — to take the lead.

The film tells the story of Lee Chandler (played by Casey Affleck), who leaves his hometown to escape a painful past and works as a handyman in a small town near Boston. After the unexpected death of his brother, he is forced to return to “Manchester by the Sea” in Massachusetts and becomes the legal guardian of his nephew Patrick (played by Lucas Hedges).

Beyond the generational communication gap, Lee must not only help Patrick heal from the loss of his father, but also face his ex-wife Randi (played by Michelle Williams), who has started a new family. This journey also gives Lee a chance to begin healing his broken heart...

The film premiered internationally at the Sundance Film Festival and quickly received widespread acclaim.
