Spring Festival Highway Garden Blooms in Changhua – “Prosperity of the Rooster Year”

The theme of this year’s “Flowers in Changhua” is “Prosperity of the Rooster Year 17 Comes,” showcasing various floral displays inspired by different imagery of the rooster. A series of packaged travel itineraries were arranged, and the event has garnered enthusiastic participation from people across the country every year, making it a top choice for travel during the Spring Festival. Last year, it ranked first in the number of visitors among national scenic spots according to statistics from the Tourism Bureau, attracting over 640,000 visitors. In addition to flower exhibitions and sales, the event also promoted local agricultural specialties and Changhua-themed souvenirs, while linking with Tianwei Highway Garden to highlight Changhua County as a major hub for flower production.

The “Flowers in Changhua” event employs the “front store, back factory” concept, using Xizhou Park as a large exhibition venue. According to statistics from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Bureau, the “Flowers in Changhua” event during the Lunar New Year in Changhua County attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. In 2016, it ranked first in the number of visitors to domestic scenic areas according to Tourism Bureau statistics, drawing over 640,000 visitors during the event. In previous years, it has also been listed by the Tourism Bureau as one of the top ten Spring Festival tourist destinations. This year, the Changhua County Government specially designed the exhibition around the theme of the Year of the Rooster, with exhibition zones named after festive rooster-themed phrases: Golden Rooster Brings Good News, The Hottest Rooster, Rooster Luck Abounds, New Year, New Rooster, Don’t Miss the Rooster, Big Rooster, Big Fortune, and Monster Repelling Zone. Additionally, there are static displays such as floral carpet landscapes, bamboo art tunnel landscapes, exhibitions of Changhua’s agricultural culture, local specialty exhibits, and police motorcycle displays. There are also dynamic performances by school specialty teams and community programs. Moreover, visitors can engage in hands-on experiences through activities such as local agricultural product fairs, parent-child DIY workshops, specialty food zones, agri-education courses, local souvenir promotions, blind massage experiences, and joyful parades featuring mascot plush toys.

In addition to the main exhibition area at Xizhou Park, this year’s “2017 Flowers in Changhua” also connects Tianwei Highway Garden and emerging attractions like Pitou Treasure Village to jointly promote the local flower industry and the unique features of each town. Visitors can enjoy the sea of cosmos flowers at Pitou Treasure Village or visit Tianwei Highway Garden to admire flowers, buy blooms, and view horticultural landscapes. Additionally, “Eating in Beidou” is a major highlight of this year’s event, featuring local delicacies such as Beidou rice balls, peanut brittle candy, century-old meat jerky, and herbal meals. Xizhou Township also offers some of the most delicious lamb hot pots—visitors are encouraged to give them a try.
