With fluffy white clouds dotting the azure sky and verdant mountain ranges stretching into the distance, escape the hustle and bustle of city life by heading straight for the mountains. This May, the highly anticipated Qingjing Skywalk will officially open, allowing visitors to walk among the clouds and gaze at the vast mountain landscapes. The next day, challenge yourself to climb Shimen Mountain, an entry-level Hundred Peaks trek, then descend to Sun Moon Lake for a bike ride amid picturesque lakeside scenery. Plan a peaceful two-day, one-night journey to Qingjing this spring or summer.

The high-altitude air between 1,700 and 2,000 meters above sea level is especially fresh. With lush green meadows and flocks of sheep all around, a visit to Qingjing makes your steps feel lighter. This year, Qingjing has added a major new highlight: to avoid conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles, Nantou County Government constructed the 1.2-kilometer Qingjing Elevated Skywalk, winding along the slopes of Provincial Highway 14A. It is set to officially open this May. Reporters who walked the skywalk noted how the pure white bridge curves through emerald-green mountaintops, and as the sun sets, large flocks of sheep head home from grazing—all worries vanish amidst the gentle bleating of the sheep.

Many visitors to Qingjing often stay just one night before heading back down the mountain. But why not take the opportunity to conquer your first Hundred Peak here? Shimen Mountain, located within Taroko National Park, stands at 3,237 meters and is one of Taiwan’s Hundred Peaks. The hike to the summit takes about 30 minutes from the base, and the trail is easy—making it a top choice for those new to Hundred Peaks challenges. Walking along the ridgeline, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views.
