“World’s Most Powerful Passport in 2017” – Germany Tops for Fourth Year, Taiwan Ranks 31st

This ranking is jointly produced by Henley & Partners and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and has been published annually since 2006 to rank the world’s most powerful passports. The German passport ranks first, enjoying visa-free access to 176 countries worldwide—a position it has held for four consecutive years. Sweden, which offers visa-free access to 175 countries, comes in second.

Among Asian countries, Singapore has the most powerful passport, ranking fourth globally with visa-free access to 173 countries—it is also the top-ranked passport in Asia. Japan and South Korea rank fifth and seventh, respectively. Taiwan's passport currently allows visa-free entry to 134 countries and ranks 31st in this year’s list; China’s passport ranks 85th in terms of global usability.
