New Delicacies at the Japanese-Era Drill Ground: Pineapple Buns & Italian Artisan Ice Cream

However, inside the Daohe Six Arts Cultural Hall in Taichung, the renowned and popular 18°C Chocolate Salon has introduced a unique twist on the traditional ice-fire pineapple bun. Instead of cream, their pineapple buns are filled with Italian artisan ice cream, transforming the rich buttery flavor into a variety of ice cream flavors that melt deliciously inside the warm bread—a truly multi-layered ice-fire experience.

The Daohe Six Arts Cultural Hall was originally a training ground for judo and kendo exercises used daily by Japanese-era prison officers and police. It was designated as a Taichung historic building in 2004 (Republic of China Year 93). After years of renovation, the drill ground has been repurposed to host cultural and educational events, making good use of and highlighting the value of traditional cultural resources.
