Taiwan’s most beautiful wooden railway station with enchanting lake views and Japanese Zen charm

known as the most beautiful wooden railway station, Checheng is located in Checheng Village, Nantou County. Built during the Japanese colonial period and completed in 1922, it became part of today’s Jiji Railway branch line. The current look of Checheng was reconstructed using logs by the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration after it was severely damaged in the 921 Earthquake. Even the open space in front of the station was paved with logs, giving it a distinctive character full of Japanese flair and surrounded by the beautiful scenery of mountains on all sides.

Currently, Checheng is actively promoting wood industry culture, railway culture, electric power industry culture, winery industry culture, and sightseeing leisure agriculture, combining and gathering historical heritage with humanistic features to bring the Checheng Railway Station back to life. Visitors traveling to Nantou next time might want to make a trip to Checheng to experience Japanese Zen charm and nostalgic vibes.
