The debut feature film "Mad World" by rising director Wong Chun shines brightly at international film festivals. This Hong Kong film was selected for the 41st Toronto International Film Festival and won two awards at the 2016 Golden Horse Awards: Best New Director and Best Supporting Actress, receiving continuous acclaim. Lead actor Shawn Yue immersed himself fully in the role of a bipolar patient — Tong — communicating every detail in depth with the director beforehand. Through this film, audiences also gain insight into the depths of the character's heart through Shawn Yue’s powerful and nuanced performance.

The film depicts Tong (played by Shawn Yue), who, since childhood, has had to single-handedly care for his mother (played by Elaine Jin), who suffers from mental illness, as his father is absent due to work and unable to support the family. As the eldest son, he bears the responsibility alone. However, the emotional interactions between mother and son are both intertwined and adversarial, resembling a long drawn-out battle of trapped beasts. One day, while giving his incontinent mother a bath as usual, an accident occurs during an argument, leading to her death. Tong’s father, Big Ocean (played by Eric Tsang), realizes that the problems he had been avoiding have led to tragedy. Having lived alone for many years, driven by guilt and loneliness, he follows the hospital’s advice and takes Tong in to temporarily stay in his cubicle apartment.

The two men, burdened with deep guilt, are left with only each other. But the family members confined in their tiny living space are also the pasts they find hardest to face. As they gradually step out of the shadows and chains of their past and begin to build a relationship in the narrow cracks of life, greater pressure comes from society...
