A miniature version of the Thames River canal scenic area with a sea-meets-sky view

The world-famous Thames River in England is a long and magnificent waterway that winds through cities, offering breathtaking scenery. Taiwan also has a similarly stunning canal landscape. Located in Xiangshan District, Hsinchu, the Gangnan Coastal Scenic Area features a section called the Gangnan Canal, which flows from Gangnan to Jincheng Lake. The route boasts beautiful scenery, and visitors—day or night—can enjoy the dazzling light displays along both sides of the canal as well as the refreshing sea breeze.

Originally a seaside bathing beach, the Gangnan Coastal Scenic Area has transformed into a multifunctional leisure destination following the closure of the bathing area. The Gangnan Canal runs from north to south through the scenic area, with facilities on its eastern side and a cycling path along the scenic coastal belt on the west. Four Chinese-style arched bridges span the canal, adding an elegant charm to the waterway. Additionally, visitors can enjoy views of the Hsinchu City Environmental Protection Bureau building and the coastal seascape. With its well-developed facilities, this site is the most suitable location among the Eight Scenic Spots by the Sea for hosting various group activities.
