GINZA SIX is a major development project in Ginza led by the parent company of Japan’s renowned brand Daimaru Matsuzakaya, along with a large urban redevelopment group and Sumitomo Corporation. Based in Tokyo’s most bustling district of Ginza, the multifunctional facility GINZA SIX officially opened on April 20, 2017, attracting significant international attention. With 241 brands, it is the shopping mall with the highest number of brands in the Ginza area, offering everything from high-end luxury goods to everyday household items and exquisite crafts, including many shops dedicated to preserving and innovating Japanese traditions. The sixth floor houses the 700-tsubo (approximately 2,310 sq m) Tsutaya Bookstore Ginza, which emphasizes a blend of art and Japanese culture. In addition, the complex features the “GINZA SIX GARDEN” rooftop garden, the cultural exchange venue “Kanze Noh Theater,” as well as installations by multiple renowned artists. Various events will be held here in the future to introduce new culture to the world.

Ginza is a prime battleground for global luxury brands. The site of GINZA SIX was created through the large-scale redevelopment of the former location of the long-established department store Matsuzakaya and its surrounding blocks. Named GINZA SIX because it is located in Ginza’s 6-chome (6th block), the project spans 47,000 square meters and consists of 13 floors above ground and 6 below. Among the many brand-name stores, one of the most anticipated is the Tsutaya Bookstore Ginza, which features towering bookshelves up to 6 meters high, a Starbucks café, and an art gallery. The bookstore displays approximately 50 types of so-called world-class art books collected from around the globe, making it a truly captivating destination.
