Hollyhocks bloom in vibrant splendor, exuding a grand palace-style charm

The spring flowers at the Taipei Expo Park are in full bloom, competing in beauty, and the hollyhocks are also bursting into radiant bloom. After getting off at Yuanshan MRT Station, walk across the expansive lawn slope of the landscape flower sea area, follow the winding path to the front of the celebrity hall with a distinct Japanese flair, and before you unfolds a "quantity creates beauty" hollyhock spectacle. The large, colorful hollyhocks intermingle, just as the ancients described: "Arrow-straight stems shoot forth, and jade-like blossoms bloom one after another," boldly showcasing a regal, palace-like elegance.

The Taipei Expo Park connects the popular Yuanshan area, the art district hosting various exhibitions, and the creatively designed Xinsheng area. The currently blooming hollyhocks will be on display until late April to early May. In addition to admiring the beautiful hollyhocks, you can also relax on the lawn and leisurely watch planes fly overhead.

Since ancient times, hollyhocks have been used in imperial and wealthy family gardens to create a luxurious and majestic effect. The ancient Greeks and Romans even applied them in cooking and medicine, making it a flower of both beauty and utility.

Native to Sichuan, China, the hollyhock is named after the region and is also called "Dragon Boat Festival Brocade" or "One-Zhang Red." It has a long flowering period, with its long stems almost entirely covered in blooms when in full flower. Currently, the park is planted with both single and double-petaled varieties, in various colors including peach, pink, yellow, and deep purple—displaying a rich and vibrant array of large blossoms.
