As times change and the internet becomes more prevalent, people’s perspectives have widened and their opportunities for interaction have multiplied, giving rise to diverse mindsets and communities. Society has transitioned from the traditional "passive aging" at home to active engagement in a diverse and cultural society. The shift is from merely "aging" to embracing "active aging," where seniors now have higher expectations and quality demands for life. Issues related to the elderly are no longer limited to care and support but also encompass a wide range of psychological needs. The "Ultra-Universal Zero-Barrier Playground" future architecture concept exhibition, organized by the Foundation for the Promotion of Spatial Justice, is now open until June 4th at the Qian Art Museum in Taichung.

The exhibition showcases a series of ideal homes tailored to the physical and mental needs of the elderly, combining the concepts of service-oriented housing and universal design. It boldly incorporates new technologies and materials to enhance functionality, transforming once cold and rigid living spaces into responsive, service-oriented homes that actively meet residents’ needs. Additionally, the exhibition space features numerous interactive installations to help visitors understand the diverse physical and mental needs of the elderly, encouraging people to plan and invest in suitable living spaces early on to improve future quality of life.

Under the concept of blending public and private spaces with universal design, the layout of ideal elderly homes is flexible and adaptable, breaking away from the traditional Chinese view of residential space as a valuable asset. For example: Airbnb-style shared designs that allow empty rooms to be rented out to young people at any time, or adjustable activity partitions that transform the center of the house into an open campsite when children and grandchildren visit. These designs not only serve caregiving functions but also address interpersonal and psychological needs such as social interaction. The Taichung City Government, as the guiding authority, stated that the city has been actively building a livable urban environment in recent years, and the core concept of this exhibition aligns perfectly with the municipal government’s goal of promoting "friendly architecture and embracing the future (community-based elderly care)."

The "Ultra-Universal Zero-Barrier Playground" centers around the dream homes of the elderly, featuring five major exhibition zones: "Ideal Homes for the Mature," "Zero Barriers in Living," "Zero Barriers in Sensory Experience," "Life Without Differences," and "Your Own Mini Zero-Barrier Home." A series of research findings are transformed into vivid and engaging interactive exhibits. In addition, several users who participated in the pre-exhibition research projects will be invited to perform outdoor music events on-site.
