Waterfront & Fishponds & Green Tunnel – New Plan for the Country’s Largest Wetland

The Xucuo Port Wetland, the country’s largest and featuring waterfronts, fishponds, and green tunnels, is an important habitat and stopover for migratory birds traveling south and north every year. To help more visitors learn about the mangrove wetland ecosystem, the first phase of the wooden boardwalk at Xucuo Port Wetland has been completed, stretching 48 meters. The second phase is also to be built, with a length of 60.9 meters, completing an “L”-shaped route. Following the principle of not affecting the original ecology, existing piers are being reused, and the boardwalk is constructed using weather-resistant, rainproof, and anti-corrosion plastic wood material to allow visitors to get closer to the Xucuo Port Wetland.

Originally an abandoned military camp, Xucuo Port now features well-developed river systems and estuary landforms, making it an optimal stopover for migratory birds. Covering 961 hectares and stretching 10.5 kilometers in length, it is a national-level important wetland designated by the Ministry of the Interior. From October each year to May of the following year, it attracts numerous bird-watchers who come to admire flocks of birds foraging and resting here, creating a serene ecological landscape.
