A new hotspot city for relaxation: a secret base for stress relief and photo ops

The bustling and stressful city life often makes people yearn for a breather. Recently, an idle plot of land near Taipei’s Guting Station has been converted into a recreational secret base for locals, turning a small area into a well-equipped leisure space. It has become a new hotspot for visitors to unwind, de-stress, and take photos. Located in a lane off Heping East Road, ParkUp Guting is the first space transformation project by the ParkUp brand. It was adopted by the Plan b team from a 100-square-meter idle lot managed by the National Property Administration. The overall space is divided into three zones, which can be used independently or connected based on different purposes.

The front courtyard of ParkUp Guting offers pleasant shade and ample space for children to play. The rear open area, enclosed by two high walls and a climbing vine fence, creates a semi-private space suitable for various types of outdoor activities such as workshops, lectures, and outdoor movie screenings. The central area features nine white horizontal bars. Their appropriate width and spacing allow wheelchairs to move freely through the space. In addition to fitness use, the bars can also support simple recreational installations like swings and hammocks, or serve as frames for drying blankets on sunny days. They can also be repurposed during events as hanging racks for displays, supports for canopies, or facades for booth stalls.
