This competition centers around the concept of “staring.” Within 90 minutes, pulse and heartbeat are measured every 15 minutes to confirm that participants remain in a “staring” state. Emotions must be very calm, with no emotional reactions allowed—of course, falling asleep results in immediate disqualification. In past competitions, Korean hip-hop singer Crush notably won the championship at the 2016 staring contest. On April 30, 2017, the fifth Staring Championship was held at Seoul’s Han River Park in Korea, where a trio dressed in pajamas ultimately took the crown.
