Little Alishan Grove – The Secret Forest of Small-Leaved Lagerstroemia Park

Towering upright with large green canopies stretching overhead, interwoven to form a beautiful shaded canopy — these are the distinctive features of the small-leaved lagerstroemia. Commonly seen as street trees in Taiwan, they not only provide greening and shade but also serve as urban landscaping elements, such as the Slin Green Tunnel in Pingtung, Highway 193 in Hualien, and Provincial Highway 174 in Xuejia, Tainan. Located in Ximei Community Forest Park in Shanhua District, Tainan, nearly 300 small-leaved lagerstroemia trees have been planted here. Towering upright and densely forested, this place is thus nicknamed the “Little Alishan Secret Spot.” Though the park covers only 0.5 hectares, the high density of tall trees gives the illusion of a sacred tree grove. The tree trunks reach skyward, and their upper branches spread out like umbrella canopies, lush and green, filled with a sense of wonder.
