Taking a train to soak in a hinoki bath – the ultra-luxurious sleeper train is now in service

A train journey costing hundreds of thousands of yen, with a level of luxury and refinement beyond imagination. Amid fierce competition among Japan’s train routes, JR took a different approach by creating the Train Suite Shiki-shima. The luxurious sleeper train Train Suite Shiki-shima by JR East Japan began service on May 1st. In addition to its all-around scenic observation cars, the most appealing features include exquisitely designed interior spaces, delicious seasonal cuisine, and opulent bedrooms equipped with hinoki wood bathtubs and hot springs. The cost for the 4-day, 3-night luxury journey can go as high as 950,000 yen, and tickets are currently so popular that they are sold out through March of next year.
