Weekly weather forecast: Thunderstorms across Taiwan, first day of Dragon Boat Festival holiday sees rainfall

On the 22nd and 23rd, most areas will be mostly cloudy to sunny, with localized brief showers in the eastern half of the island. On the 22nd, there will be localized brief thunderstorms in the mountainous areas of the north and central-southern regions in the afternoon; on the 23rd, there will be localized brief thunderstorms in the western half of the island. From the 24th to the 28th, influenced by a frontal system, there is a chance of localized heavier rainfall. On the 24th, there will be brief showers or thunderstorms in central and northern areas as well as the eastern half of the island, with localized brief showers or thunderstorms also in the southern region; there is a chance of localized foehn winds in the southeastern region. From the 25th to the 27th, there will still be brief showers or thunderstorms across the island. On the 28th, there will be brief showers in the eastern half and southern regions, with other areas also seeing localized brief showers. On the 22nd, there is a chance of long-period swells along the Keelung northern coast, eastern coastal areas, Green Island, and Orchid Island, which requires extra attention.

This weekend coincides with the start of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. On Saturday, it will be rainy across the island, while on Sunday, the rainy areas will decrease, with only Keelung, the northeast, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung experiencing rainfall during the day. Temperatures across the island will soar, with the southern region reaching up to 34°C. Kinmen, Penghu, and Lienchiang have not yet exceeded 30°C, with lows between 21–24°C. Temperatures across the island start at 25°C, so it’s important to watch out for temperature differences when entering and exiting air-conditioned spaces, keep warm, drink plenty of water, and carry rain gear or prepare sufficient drinking water when going out.
