A dark version of Disneyland not suitable for children — an anti-utopian theme

After introducing the latest major project by British graffiti artist Banksy — the Walled Off Hotel, we’re now taking a look back at one of his earlier astonishing creations. Located in Weston-super-Mare on the coast of England, there is a dark version of Disneyland created by Banksy in 2015 — Dismaland, a short-term art project. This anti-utopian theme park advocates that amusement parks should have more meaningful themes. True to Banksy’s style, the exhibits carry satirical political messages, which is why Dismaland is promoted as a family theme park not suitable for children.

The park includes art installations such as a dilapidated Sleeping Beauty castle, a distorted Little Mermaid, and a comic-style airport security checkpoint. To enhance the atmosphere, the staff are also known for their zombie-like indifferent service attitude. This large-scale art exhibition was held from August 21 to September 27, 2015. Although the exhibition ended long ago, the remaining installations remain pilgrimage sites for many domestic and international tourists.
