Recent Travel Advisory: Five Consecutive Earthquakes in Chiayi

On the evening of May 24, five noticeable earthquakes occurred consecutively in Chiayi City, with the epicenter located in Zhongpu Township, Chiayi City. At 9:10 p.m., an earthquake with a magnitude as high as 5 even struck. No damage has been reported in Chiayi County or City. Updates were shared via instant messaging apps and residents were reminded not to panic, while also being advised to ensure proper earthquake preparedness in their daily lives.

On May 25 at 1:48 p.m., a sixth earthquake occurred, with the epicenter again inZhongpu Township, Chiayi City, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale.

 

As the earthquakes have occurred frequently and all share the same epicenter, this indicates ongoing activity in an underground fault line. Further quakes cannot be ruled out. In addition to residents in the Chiayi area staying vigilant, travelers visiting Chiayi should also pay attention to the escape routes and safety facilities at their accommodations.
