What a huge attraction—a massive sandbox at Riverside Park, Taiwan’s largest playground sandbox, feels like an urban beach.

The sandbox in Dajia Riverside Park, which has been under renovation since 2016 (the 105th year of the Republic of China), has now been completed and will officially open tomorrow (April 1) to coincide with the Children’s Day holiday. It will be free for children to enjoy. This brand-new sandbox covers a vast area and features numerous play facilities, making it the largest of its kind in Taiwan. The renovated sandbox also offers significantly improved safety measures, giving parents greater peace of mind.

In addition to being the first in Taiwan to feature three inclusive excavators, the Dajia Riverside Park sandbox also includes specially designed inclusive sand tables—all of which have passed international safety certifications, allowing children with disabilities to safely enjoy playing in the sand while seated in wheelchairs. The whale-shaped slide in the sandbox thoughtfully includes a wide, parent-child slide so that parents can slide down with younger children, ensuring safety while enjoying quality time together. The area around the slide also features climbing and scrambling equipment, allowing kids to play while building their physical strength. The Water Resources Bureau noted that there are also three hidden dinosaur fossils buried in the sandbox, waiting for children to dig them up and experience the thrill of archaeological exploration.

The inclusive sandbox at Dajia Riverside Park is currently the largest of its kind in Taiwan. The site uses approximately 300 cubic meters of sand and is equipped with shading facilities and rest areas to prevent excessive sun exposure during family playtime. To promote the 2017 Universiade, a super-cute 2.5-meter-tall Bear Zhao plush inflatable mascot will be available for photos with both adults and children next to the sandbox from April 1 to August 31. The Water Resources Bureau reminds everyone that while taking fun photos with Bear Zhao, for safety reasons, do not climb on or poke (or cut) the inflatable mascot with sharp objects to avoid punctures or injuries.

How to get to the Dajia Riverside Park Playground Sandbox:
Enter through Gate 8 (Binjiang Evacuation Gate) or Gate 9 (Dajia Evacuation Gate) of the Keelung River, turn left, go straight, and you’ll arrive at the Hope Fountain.
